UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, has awarded GM Daewoo Auto & Technology with its 2005 Asia Pacific (AP) PLM Excellence Award.

The AP PLM Excellence Award recognizes manufacturers in Asia Pacific that have achieved exceptional business success through the use of PLM software and services. The growing popularity of this prestigious competition is reflected in the diversity of this year’s entrants, ranging from both emerging markets, such as India and China, and the more established manufacturing powers of Korea and Japan.

GM Daewoo secured the award after its Incheon-based design and production team demonstrated how it successfully achieved all first year targets for its UGS PLM implementation. The company excelled at transforming their process by supporting vehicle development time reduction of up to six months, reducing engineering system costs by approximately $15 million and increasing the number of concurrent car development programs by up to 50 percent.

Steven L. Clarke, VP, GM Daewoo Auto & Technology, says: “Through this particular PLM strategy, we have been able to transform our work flow into more efficient process, while simultaneously lowering costs. That in itself was already a win for us – and this Excellence Award is icing on the cake.”
